The Big Bend Ultra
Sunday, January 14, 2018
Start/Finish Barton Warnock Visitor Center, Lajitas, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Texas
The Big Bend 50 is a competitive trail run open to novice and professional athletes alike. The Big Bend Ultra offers chip-timed 10K, 30K and 50K marked distances for runners who want to take on the trails through BBRSP’s challenging topography and inspiring landscape. The event is usually held over Martin Luther King Jr. Day Weekend in January and benefits Compadres del Rancho Grande, the official friends group for Big Bend Ranch State Park. Aid stations are distributed at 5-mile distances throughout the course. Proceeds from the Ultra supports programs and projects in the parks ranging from interpretive publications, engaging programs and park infrastructure improvements. River Clean Up: At least one weekend each year, Compadres del Rancho
Grande and friends remove all species of trash from tributaries, roadways
and riverbanks to prevent pollution in the Rio Grande. If the river is up
and flowing (100 cubic feet per second or more) we accomplish the mission
by raft, canoe or other watercraft. If not, we get creative. Check back
for upcoming dates & information!
